My experience with LASIK eye surgery...

So I found out several months ago that my insurance pays 90% for LASIK eye surgery which I know is unheard of! So I started researching Dr's that I felt comfortable with and found one. Before I made the appointment I went on to my insurances website to verify that they pay the 90% and it stated that they did.
I made the appointment and was told that would be a free consultation to make sure that I was a candidate. I stated that I had insurance and she said we would talk about that during the consultation appointment.
Fast forward to the consultation, I was told that I needed to be out of my glasses for 2 weeks and then to come back on the 25th to finish my evaluation and that we would do the surgery on the 27th. I asked about payment and they started doing this whole little routine "well it's $2400 an eye and here is our payment plans, etc" I have insurance that pays. "what? wow" So they stated they would look into it.

I went home that day and called the insurance and they verified that this place and the doctor that will perform the surgery both have a contract with the insurance company. I called the lasik place and gave them that information then they called the insurance company and agreed that they do have a contract. The dr's office said okay we will look into this.

Fast forward 2 weeks. I was out of my contacts for those 2 weeks then went back for my final evaluation. They ran some type of test, dilated my eyes then sent me back to the financial office. Then this is when they tell me that they have never finalized anything. That they wanted me to postpone my surgery!!! They said that they didn't know they had a contract with my insurance company for LASIK and that they don't want to lose money. Basically the surgery is $4800 and my insurance only pays $2000 and that is in the contract. But they don't like that and said that have their CEO working on this because they don't want to lose money. I said "I don't see how this is my problem? You guys said you had a contract we verified that. My insurance pays 90%, I pay 10% and I'm willing to pay that amount right now." Then they said a bunch of other stuff.
So I finished my evaluation because my eyes were already dilated so why not? But I'm pissed that they let me get this far into the process before telling me any of this. I called my insurance company and they looked into it and found that the contract is re-negotiating right now. So I went ahead and made the surgery date for 4.11.08 which is the next day that they do LASIK.

So fast forward to now. My surgery was suppose to be TODAY and here I sit able to type this... yeah it didn't happen. Monday I was suppose to start a steriod eye drop to prepare my eyes for the surgery. I call Friday to make sure that everything is okay since I hadn't heard. They said they haven't heard anything. Monday no call, Tuesday I call again. Still no answer from the insurance. I call Wednesday morning and they said that they got the insurance information that morning and that they would put the information on the CEO's desk. 3:00pm and no word! I call and no answer, I leave a message. 3:30pm no word, I call 2 different people no answer and I leave another message. 4:00pm and still no call! I finally talk to someone and they said the girl I have been working with LEFT for the day!!! HELLOOOOOOOOOO I said "well that is crappy!" My surgery was suppose to be the next freaking day! So the girl said that she would go to the CEO's office right now and get this straightened out. 1hour later no call so I call back, she said that he was in a meeting and she would call me before she left work. At 6pm I get a call and they said that the insurance won't tell them where they can find it in their contract that they do pay for refractive surgery. So the dr's contract says one thing and my insurance says another. So she said "I'm sorry but we can't go through with this tomorrow b/c we don't know how the financial aspect will play out. But I tell you what I will call you first thing tomorrow morning." "No you won't I'm through with you guys you can just take me off your little list" I'm sorry ma'am I know you are going to tell everyone your friends and family about this. "Sure am and everyone else I know!" "well if you ever need anything" "oh you don't have to worry about that, I will never come to you guys again!"
So the place is http://www.eyespecialtygroup.md/ avoid them and tell everyone you know!!!

So now I am back to square one. My insurance is working with me to find a doctor that agrees to the insurance price. I have worn my glasses for a month now for no reason, I've put quite the cocktail of eye drops in my eyes for no reason, and I've went through numerous tests for no reason now to just do it all over again!!! Completely frustrating
